kitten love
(2004)

back when we first with our young hearts
experimented with love
throwing it around like pennies
shiny and new
wee children kissing each other
on rosy little cheeks and thin puckered lips
hugging in the snow

our hearts like buds barely bursting into bloom
and realizing that the opposite sex
isn't really so yucky
testing our wings, discovering the bliss
of unassisted flight

but children can be cruel.
first love, first hate
i love you again
looking back, i suppress a chuckle at my own folly

what happened to that unconditional
kitten love?
sad to say, it was the purest love i've ever experienced.
to feel your heart sprout wings and take flight
from your chest to your throat

yes, children, life and love can be cruel
if ever i find it.
i wish i were a child again
so i could be

in love with love

and have someone to hold who wouldn't push me away.

Your Reason
(2004)

I think as I sit here, waiting
How did it happen?
Never would have guessed...
How did it happen?

We both know how it feels
It happened....
Hiding in my own skin
I know why it happened...

I'll be your reason to live
If you'll be mine
I'll be your savior
If you'll be mine

You can be my reason
To withstand time
I'll be your reason
If you'll be mine

You know what it's like
To be not alive
You know how it feels
To take the dive

But now that's past-tense
You're done with death
A poor substitute for
Your lover's rapid breath....
