Cat 'O Nine Tails
Preface

Yet another story inspired by a very detailed dream. I wrote as much as I could remember, and I still remember more, but my inspiration shifted shortly after I tried to start chapter three and I've been neglecting this story ever since. Thus is the curse of the ADHD-inflicted. It's hard to stick to one project for long.

I do, however, plan to finish this. This was one of my more vivid dreams. It felt like it had some kind of purpose. Plus, I was a cat in it :3. That alone makes it write-worthy.

Chapter 1- Fallen.

I’ll start where my memory starts. I can’t vouch for what they tell me I was before the incident that separated me from my past. It’s all I have to give you- it’s not much… but a story must be told to explain the events leading up to the present.

The pain. That’s the first thing I understood.
Bright, blinding light and pain.

My head was tilted down, arms outstretched. I remember that I wasn’t physically touching anything. I gasped through the unthinkable pain that was invading my eye sockets, desperate to grasp reality in my sudden, utter confusion.

Golden….
I noticed it was out of the ordinary without any understanding of what ordinary was for me, at this point. I just knew that my fur ought to be tan and white… but the fur on my chest and stomach was golden.

And it felt as if there was more of me present than should be. Extra…. parts…

This happened in what seemed a few minutes, though I doubt it lasted longer than five seconds. The darkness seeped in rapidly…. and I fell.

My supposed comrades claimed it was the fall that took away my memory. I wouldn’t have been surprised, but it seems that was not the case. Unless the vision of gold and light had been a dream of some sort… looking back, I know different.

They weren’t very helpful to begin with. I felt the need to be cautious around them, they reeked of bad intention. Of course they did. They were mercenaries.

They called themselves mercenaries, anyway. I knew the word for them. Assassins. Hitmen. Hired killers. But, in this world, apparently mercenaries were all that and more.
